Toby's First Birthday

Toby's birthday celebrations were going to start on June 12th, the anniversary of his due date. Just like his due date it was disappointing. We were going to go to Cherry Hill with Zach's family, but the weather was awful. It was rainy and cold. The next day we had a bithday dinner/father's day dinner at Brent and Karma's before they left to Europe. The birthday dinner was great. Toby got some great presents: a tent and tunnel with balls, a winnie the pooh riding toy, a toy airplane, a piano/xylophone, and many others. Toby also enjoyed his first cupcake and made a huge mess. Then on Toby's birthday we had a picnic at the park by our house. We had lunch, played at the park, and opened a few more presents: some clothes and books. We had a lot of fun.

One Year Old

Saturday was Toby's first birthday. I can't believe it has been a year. He is such a cutie and a troublemaker. To celebrate Toby's birthday we had dinner at Karma and Brent's house as well as a picnic at the park (pictures to come).

Today we had his one year check up. Toby weighs 21 lbs 13 0z - 34% (his friend Cade is 4 months younger and at least 2 lbs heavier). He is 29 inches tall - 24%. And his head circumference is 18.8 inches - 85%. WE have begun the transition to milk and a sippy cup. Hopefully Toby will do really well since he isn't too big a fan of solids yet. As most of you know Toby is a big fan of baby food. I didn't work too hard on normal food because of this. Lately I've been trying to give him more things, but he is a little picky. This isn't to say he doesn't like food, except mashed potatoes. It's just that one day he will eat a food and the next day he won't. So it's just a big guessing game. He is very consistent about eating fruit though. So if all else fails that's what he eats.

Toby crawls all over the place and gets into everything. He actually took his first steps by himself on his birthday (video of this to come). It is so funny to see him try to walk. He usually only takes a couple of steps, but already has gotten better in the past two days. Toby loves Baby Einstein and I don't think either of us could live without it, especially at 5 am. Some of his favorite toys are his Winnie the Pooh Train thing and his tunnel that he got for his birthday. Another thing that Toby loves is our wind chime. Every time he hears it he giggles. He also giggles at other things. If he hears laughter he laughs, if you play peek-a-boo he laughs. It is pretty easy to get a smile out of Toby and we are grateful that for the most part we have a very happy baby.

Toby is also very loud. He babbles to himself almost all day long. He laughs, cries, screams (either happy or sad), and makes noise all the time. His "first" word is uh-oh. He knows exactly what this means and says it a lot, mostly when he drops things. It is so cute to hear him say it.

Memorial Day

For Memorial Day we decided to go to Cherry Hill. We have season passes so the fact that it was a little chilly didn't bother us. When we first got there I put Toby down in the water and he was not pleased. He started crying right away. I think it was a combination of being tired and cold. After taking a nap and peeing on Karma we tried the water again. This time I tried to ease Toby into it. I started with letting him just stand in the water. Once he got used to that I sat him down. After sitting there for a minute he got a lot happier. He splashed a little bit, not nearly as much as he does in the tub and laughed at the other kids playing. He also enjoyed the lazy river. He rode on my lap and enjoyed watching people swim by. It was a lot of fun and will be even better when it is warm.

First Tooth . . . Teeth

Toby started teething at 3 months old. We saw a piece of a tooth on the top and bottom start coming through before disappearing for almost 8 months. He drools constantly. He chews on everything. On May 6th I noticed two slits on Toby's bottom gum. Then on Sunday May 9th during relief society Toby was playing on the floor. He started sucking on my leg which isn't too unusual. Then I felt something hard and sharp. Upon further inspection I saw that both teeth had come through. Since then I have gradually started to give Toby normal foods. He loves bread, oranges, marshmallows, and strawberries. Two teeth down, only a lot more to go.

Long Time, No Blogging

It's been a while since I last wrote. On one hand it seems like a lot has happened, but on the other there really hasn't been much that happened.

First off, Zach went to Japan for 10 days. He went on a trip to an Air Force Base in Masawa. Zach has gone on business trips before, but the longest one was 5 days. I missed him a ton, but we made it. I was able to do a lot of shopping that just doesn't happen when Zach is around because he has the car during the day. I finished buying Toby's birthday presents (he turns 1 on June 19th). Zach's family was also great - they visited quite a bit. I also did a ton of scrapbooking while Toby was sleeping. A few weeks ago I printed off 188 pictures from 2009 and 2010. As of today I can officially say that I am finished scrapbooking the pictures from 2009 and am caught up with 2010. I am very excited with how the pages turned out and would love to show it to any person that comes over whether they like it or not. Next up is finishing our wedding scapbook. Toby was very excited to see Zach when we picked him up from the airport. He was all smiles. One night before Zach came home our friend Erik stopped by to pick something up. The whole time he was here Toby wanted Erik to hold him. I guess Toby just needed some guy time.

Toby is now 11 months old. He is a feisty little fellow. He crawls all over the place and loves to stand up and not hold on to anything. If we help him he will walk around the room with his walker. He hates naps, wakes up several times a night screaming, and almost always gets up before 7 am. He loves to eat. He loves marshmallows, ice cream, bread, and oranges (he gets so mad when we take an orange peel away unless we give him another one). He absolutely hates mashed potatoes. When you give him some he makes the funniest face and shutters. Most of the time he is pretty happy. He smiles and flirts with strangers. He has the cutest laugh, it sometimes sounds like a machine gun.
