Toby is Two Months Old!!

It is really hard to believe that Toby is two months old. The first month of his life seemed to take forever, but the second one has flown by. Besides going by quickly is has also been a lot easier. Toby sleeps longer at night now so I am not nearly as exhausted as I was before. He smiles and "talks" to us which makes things a lot more fun. I actually find myself liking being a mom more and more each day. For a while there I wasn't sure that I liked what I had gotten myself into.

During the day Toby eats 4 ounces of formula every three hours, but only eats twice at night (just so everyone understands night is the time between 8:30 pm and 8:30 am). Toby still spits up several times a day, but it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. I am still the main person that is wearing this spit up, but on occasion he shares with other people. For instance, the other day Toby spit up a little bit and when Zach went to wipe it off Toby's face, Toby sneezed all over Zach.

We went to the doctor on Monday for Toby's two month well check and he got his immunizations. He didn't appreciate the shots, but did calm down quickly after. He did however like the immunization that you drink - I don't remember which one it is - but it is a thick liquid like corn syrup and tastes sweet. While Toby was a little confused at first, he smiled the rest of the time he was drinking that one. Toby has grown a lot. Here is his growth information compared to when he was born.

South Jordan Picnic

On Saturday night we went to the South Jordan Picnic with Zach's family. Grandma Bateman had been in charge of planning it to celebrate the 150th anniversary of South Jordan. There was a bunch of food and a few relay races. We bought 80 tickets and then only used about 20, it turned out that everything was cheaper than we expected. After we had walked around for a while we went to the playground to watch the little kids, and Zach, play.

Toby's New Toy

We recently purchased this toy for Toby. He will sit under it and stare at the toys that are dangling above him. The bear is holding a ball that moves. When you spin the ball, it plays music. Usually I have to do this for Toby since he hasn't quite realized that he has arms and can move them (he usually just hits himself in the face and then gets mad about it). But, the other day Toby sneezed while he was laying there. This caused his arm to swing above his head, hit the ball, make it spin, and play music. When I heard the music come on, I looked over at Toby and he seemed so surprised that music was playing. He also enjoys having tummy time on the mat because there are things for him to look at. Hopefully this will help tummy time last for more than 5 minutes without hysterical sobbing.

Dinosaur Museum

On Tuesday I went to the Thanksgiving Point Dinosaur Museum. I went with two of my sisters, Beth and Carolyn, their kids, and my cousin Heather and her daughter. We decided to go because they have a special during the month of August where you can get in on Tuesdays for only $2. It was great that we didn't have to pay very much, but man was it busy. Toby and I rode down with Carolyn. It was great that I didn't have to drive. Before we left I was talking to Britton and he asked if I was going with them. When I told him I was and asked if he was excited he told me that he didn't want the dinosaurs to get him. The only downside was Britton getting sick and throwing up. We had to pull off the freeway early so that Carolyn could clean everything up. Britton was very upset that he had gotten dirty and to make matters worse Jayden kept making fun of him for throwing up on himself.The museum was a lot of fun, but is definitely geared towards children. The little boys loved all of the stuff we saw. It was a great day.

By this time Toby had fallen asleep, but I'm sure he was learning "by osmosis."

I thought it was cool that they had real goldfish swimming around the exhibits.

This was one of the few times that Jayden stayed in the same place long enough to get a picture. He was running from exhibit to exhibit the whole time. There were even a few times when he would stand by a dinosaur so that his mom could take a picture and he would run in place with a look of horror on his face as he pretended that the dinosaurs were real.

Just Having Fun

Last Thursday I went over to my parent's house to visit and hang out with my family. Tammy, Beth, and Carolyn came with their kids. We had lunch and then the kids went swimming. It was a lot of fun.

Julia looked so cute in her hat. When Beth tried to take it off for a minute she got upset and tried to put it back on right away.

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Toby does not sleep through the night yet, but he is only eight weeks old on Friday so I'm not worried about it, I would just like a full night of sleep. I know that "they" (the so-called baby experts) say you should have a bedtime routine, keep the baby awake more during the day, have a schedule, etc. but right now I am in survival mode where I will do whatever works at the time so that I can stay sane. Well this is starting to sound depressing so on to the point of this whole post. In the past I have tried several things to get Toby to bed - we have rocked him, put him in the swing, walked around with him, played music, and a few others. They all worked okay, but nothing was consistent. Well for the past four days in a row Toby has contentedly laid in his crib listening and watching a fisher price toy that is a hand-me-down from a friend of my mom. This toy plays classicalish music while the inside lights up. There is a fish that moves around and the water bubbles. I just have to turn it on and turn the lights off. The toy even goes off by itself after 20 minutes. I hope that this keeps working because it has been so wonderful - keep your fingers crossed.

Sacrament Meeting

Yesterday in church we were sitting behind a family with 5 children. The oldest three children were boys with ages ranging from 6-9. During the ward business the parents were called to be cub scout leaders. When the mom's name was read we heard a loud gasp from the oldest child.Then as his mom was sitting down all of the boys broke into uncontrollable laughter. While Zach and I found this pretty funny, their mother did not. She kept telling them to stop laughing and asking what was so funny about it. Then one of the younger boys said "Now you're never going to get rid of us." Then while the sacrament was being passed the oldest boy started telling his mom all about how you could get milk to spray out your nose - by clamping your mouth shut and laughing, your ears - by shutting your mouth and your nose, and finally your eyes - by clamping your mouth shut while plugging your nose and ears (he even gave a demonstration of how you could do this part).

This family wasn't the only entertaining part of Sacrament meeting. During one of the talks about temples, the sister talking told the following story about someone she knew. This person and her husband had gone to a grocery store after visiting the temple and as they got out of the car they saw a woman slumped over her steering wheel. They were very alarmed and called the police. When the police got there they got the woman out of the car and found out she was in shock. It turned out that the woman had finished her grocery shopping and put the groceries in the back seat of the car. Then she got in the car and moved her seat backwards smashing the groceries. Because of the pressure from the seat and the heat in the car a can of dough (like from cresent rolls) exploded. The woman heard the sound and thought she had been shot at. Then she felt the back of her heard where incidentally a piece of dough had landed. The woman assumed that the dough was actually stuff oozing out of her head from the bullet hole and went into shock. The sister telling this story could hardly get through it because she kept laughing and I am still wondering how this applied to her talk. All in all it was a great sacrament meeting.

Introducing Toby

Toby joined our family on June 19th at 2:06 am after 13 hours of labor. He weighed in at 7 lbs 13 oz and was 20 inches long. He is already a lot bigger and has changed so much. We sure love him.













Toby did not take coming into the world lightly, it took three hours of pushing to coax him out.

We see this face a lot because Toby almost always wants to be held.

Our Apartment

I promised that I would start a blog once I had a baby and some interesting things to write about, so here it goes . . .

We recently moved from a tiny, hole in the wall apartment in Logan to Kaysville. Our old apartment had one bedroom with carpet from the 1970's. I couldn't believe how much stuff we had packed in there until we moved. Although it wasn't the best we loved our time there but are grateful to be in our new apartment that has two bedrooms and brand spankin' new carpet and linoleum.
