Halloween Pumpkins

In preparation for Halloween we went to Brent and Karma's house to carve some more pumpkins. Since Zach hadn't carved his yet we took it down with us. He carved Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Then he used one of his parent's pumpkins and carved Bowser. After spending a night with the family we went Trunk or Treating at their ward building. Toby really wasn't sure what was going on. He kept looking in the bucket I was holding, not realizing it was candy. If someone handed him the candy he just dropped it in the bucket without thinking twice. Then everything in the world disappeared when someone gave him a glow stick. He couldn't take his eyes off it and barely noticed when other people gave us candy. I guess it doesn't really matter since Zach and I are planning on eating his candy anyway. His not paying attention though did make it a little more obvious and embarrassing. There was even one car where the people asked what kind of candy bar Toby wanted, of course I told them my favorite (Toby doesn't have a favorite anyway) and then they commented on the fact that I was going to eat it as we walked away. Oh well. We had a good time.

Then on Saturday, Zach carved our last pumpkin. He carved Zero, the dog from The Nightmare Before Christmas (if you haven't realized yet, Zach really likes that movie). We decided not to take Toby Trick or Treating. We didn't need anymore candy, it was raining, and he had no idea what was going on and that he was missing out. Instead we had Erik and Shanna over for dinner. We had a great visit with them and Toby loves them. It was a great Halloween. Now time for Christmas, and I guess we shouldn't skip Thanksgiving and my birthday.

Davis Pumpkin Carving Party

Every year my parents have a party where everyone who can comes and carves pumpkins. The kids dress up in their costumes so that we can all see and we have dinner. It is one of my favorite Halloween traditions. This year it was raining and we confined to the garage for carving pumpkins, but we had a great time. For those of you who don't know Zach is a master pumpkin carver and I am mediocre at best. Most years I get so frustrated that I throw my pumpkin away and mope. This year however was a different story. Zach got stuck helping one of our nephews carve his pumpkin and so he didn't have time to do his own and mine actually turned out nice. Toby loved carving pumpkins as well. He thought that pulling out the guts was fun and would then drop them in the garbage can for me. He also enjoyed throwing the top of my pumpkin away and eating pieces of pumpkins. It was a great pumpkin carving party.

Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

Monday night we went to Black Island Farms with Carolyn's family. First we took a tractor ride to the pumpkin patch. We all picked out our own pumpkins, even Toby got one, and then rode back to the farm. Toby loved, loved, loved the tractor ride. He wasn't very excited about sitting on my lap until we started moving. We were at the front of the bench and he had a clear view of it in front of us. He just stared in shock at the tractor and every once in a while would start giggling. In the pumpkin patch Toby got excited about all of the pumpkins. When he got close to one he would just hit it with both hands and laugh.

Back at the farm there were animals. Toby couldn't get enough of the turkeys. Every time they started gobbling he got a shocked look on his face and would look around like he didn't know where it was coming from. Then there was the slide. Toby loves slides. Toby and Keyan went down the slide over and over again. They just couldn't wait to get back on slide. It was such a fun night and we had a great time.

Fourth of July

I know that this was two months ago, but somehow these pictures just barely got onto our computer, so here we go.

For the fourth of July Kaysville City has a big parade. It just so happens that this parade goes right past our house. In fact I don't know if there could have been a closer spot than our place. So the day before the parade I set out a bunch of blankets on the grass so we could have an awesome spot to watch. I have never done this before and it made me kind of nervous. So I kept checking on them to make sure that no one had moved them or stolen them. At one point during the day I saw a car pull up and went outside to have a look. Just as I opened the door I saw a lady put a blanket on the sidewalk in front of one of my blankets. Her husband asked if that space was reserved because of the blankets on the grass and she said "If they want to be able to see the parade, they should have put there stuff here." I was super annoyed, but really didn't want to confront the lady about. So as soon as they left I put more blankets out on the sidewalk.

On parade day we had a lot of people over. Almost all of Zach's family came, Jackie's sister Jessica and her family, and my sister Carolyn and her family. The parade was a lot of fun. There was a lot of candy and at the end the floats and stuff spray a ton of water. A bunch of us went inside for this part, and those that didn't got soaked. It was a lot of fun and the best part was that we didn't even have to drive anywhere.

St. George

A few weeks ago Zach, Toby, and I went on a trip to St. George. The drive down wasn't too bad. We left just before Toby would need to take a nap and once he woke up we turned on Baby Einstein (thank you Carolyn for the portable DVD player).

While we were down there we relaxed, went hiking, shopping, and saw a show at Tuachan. Zach and Duane went on a couple of hikes looking for tortoises without much luck. I came along for a hike up an extinct volcano. And Once Brandon came down he went with Zach and Duane to some lava caves. The scenery was beautiful and in the morning the heat wasn't too bad so hiking was nice. I think next time though we will go when it is a little cooler.
We stayed with the Woodmansee family and had a great time visiting with them. They have a dog, Muffy, that is getting a little old and doesn't hear very well. Toby was fascinated by her. He followed her around the house and we had to make sure he didn't sneak up on her. We also had to keep the dog food out of Toby's way. Toby also had fun helping load/unload the dishwasher. We had a great time and it was fun to do something different (we usually go on vacation to Disneyland).
